The aerosol submodel GMXE has been developed based on the aerosol module M7 originally developed by Stier et al.
However, it has been highly modified to include aerosol thermodynamical descriptions (ISORROPIA II & EQSAM4CLIM), to be used with a completely flexible number of modes and is easily extendable with additional compounds.
A standard configuration includes sulphate, ammonium, nitrate, sodium, chloride as ions, and water, organic carbon, black carbon, and dust as bulk compounds and operates on 4 lognormal size modes.
